Ahead of representing Great Britain on the next stop of the Beach Volleyball World Tour in Morocco, the men's volleyball team showed off their skills at Westminster Academy last week. Students from the school, in Harrow Road, Westbourne Green, also had the chance to receive coaching from the team on Friday.
The players were training on more than 300 tonnes of sand taken from an Olympic test event at Horse Guards Parade in Westminster, which now forms one of London's only urban beach volleyball courts.
Westminster Council made a bid for the new court to London's Olympic Organising Committee (LOCOG) as part of an increase drive to promote Olympic sport within the borough, ahead of the 2012 Games.
Councillor Steve Summers, the council's deputy head of sports and leisure, said: "Having world-class athletes train here shows just how superb this facility is.
"This new court not only serves to benefit professional players but the whole community and it is another example of our commitment to diversifying sport in the city. "With the Olympics on the horizon, this is an exciting time for sport all over London and I hope that our residents and visitors will take full advantage of the top facilities we provide."
